Looking for good travel bucket list ideas for couples?
I’ve created a list of 100 places and types of vacation activities for couples of many different interests, ages, and even physical capabilities.
Some of you may prefer physically active things to do on vacation, others of you prefer relaxing activities.
In my opinion, many other bucket list blog posts include travel ideas that do not actually qualify as bucket list ideas.
I’ve done my best to build a list of full-length vacation and quick getaway ideas that you do not get to do often.
And that in many cases might just be the one and only time you get to do them- which is what a bucket list is supposed to be.

1. Castles in the US
Did you know there are castles in the United States? (In some cases follies- mansions that look like castles).
Find out what US castles are close to you or close to your next couples getaway.
You can even rent some out for your wedding, while others serve as hotels or museums.
But most you can tour.

Most cities offer helicopter rides, even here in Orlando, there a quite a few to choose from.

You can even experience first-hand some of the best US cities for hot air balloon festivals while checking out the surrounding attractions.

Can you imagine seeing a whale in the wild?! There are many places here in the US and throughout the world where you can take guided whale-watching tours.
This is personally one of my top travel bucket list ideas and I almost got to check it off when I went to Seattle last year.
Both the East and West Coast, plus Alaska offer many places to view these mammoth beasts in their natural settings.
Headed to Hawaii soon?

5. Florida Dolphin Cruises
Living in Florida makes it easier to see dolphins in the wild.
I’ve lucked out a few times to see them by being at the right place at the right time.
But I’ve also taken a few guided dolphin boat rides.
One of my favorite things to do is a sunset cruise where you sip a cocktail or glass of wine at the end of the ride after viewing dolphins chasing your boat.
If you’re interested in a romantic couples getaway to Florida then check out my blog post 5 Weekend Paradises in Florida for Couples.
6. Florida Everglades Airboat Rides
Here’s another one of the travel bucket list ideas that makes it easier for me since I live in Florida.
While I’ve seen hundreds of American Alligators in the wild, there is a certain sense of mystique that comes with taking a trip down to the Florida Everglades.
You can take airboat rides here in Orlando too, but if you want to see some of the biggest gators I’ve ever seen then travel to the Everglades.
7. US Riverboat Cruises
Cruising up the Ohio or Mississippi river, feeling like Mark Twain back in the 1800s is quite the nostalgic idea for a romantic getaway.
We met a couple at a rooftop bar in St. Louis who were to embark on one.
That’s where the idea of a US riverboat cruise sparked in my head.
Many make several stops at river port cities along the way. All serve meals and provide entertainment.
Think of it like the cruises we all know about at sea but on a river instead.
8. Scenic US Train Rides
My mother used to tell me how she’d travel across the country from Ohio to California on full-service train rides.
If you’re looking for unique travel bucket list ideas for couples then here is a hidden gem that’s worth looking into.
Imagine all the natural beauty you’d encounter along the way from mountains, plains and big cities.
It’d be like taking several trips in one.
9. Underground City Tours in the US
When I went to Seattle the tour wasn’t taking place due to Covid, but parts of the city (Pioneer Square) had burnt to the ground in the 1800s.
And instead of knocking everything down the city decided to build on top of the ruins.
You can tour this underground city frozen in time.
As well as other interesting underground tours throughout the US and World.
Here’s a list of some behind-the-scenes tours of famous US landmarks.
10. European Castles
As cool as it is to visit castles and mansions here in the US imagine how mind-blowing it would be to visit a real-life fairytale-like castle in France or Germany.
Tell me that’s not one of the most awesome hidden gem travel bucket list ideas.
Many you can tour and even some stand erect in the middle of a fully functioning town.
Learn about the history and picture what life was like over a thousand years ago.

11. Top World Wineries and Vineyards
New or Old World, or both, if you want to experience a time-stands-still moment, then relax or plan an entire trip or getaway for this idea.
Luckily for me, I’ve checked this off my bucket list, but I love going so much that I plan to return to Sonoma or Napa this year with my girlfriend.
Of course, this only makes sense if you like wine, but you don’t need to be a connoisseur.
Many are usually clustered together in each wine region.
But I’d recommend plotting out a few to check out before you travel or you could lose a lot of time.
12. Royal Palace Tours
Yes, this is similar to the castle idea, but many palaces are (or were) fully-functioning residents for royalty or important high-up dignitaries.
Imagine touring the White House, Buckingham Palace, Belvedere in Vienna, or the Berlin Palace.
13. All-inclusive Dude Ranches
Do you want travel bucket list ideas for couples to truly escape and leave work and other daily life behind?
Book a trip to a dude ranch where you can participate in activities such as Horseback riding, biking, fly fishing, go whitewater rafting, take guided hikes through the mountains or canyons, do a cowboy bbq, make cowboy campfires, power tubing, or stargaze.
14. Private Charter Boat Rides to Secluded Caribbean Islands
Boating to secluded islands lined with blue water and chock full of tropical fish of all different colors will certainly make time stand still.

You can find affordable private charter boat rides throughout the Caribbean.
This makes for one of the most memorable hidden gem travel bucket list ideas you might want to explore.
15. Treehouse Rentals
Sounds like something right out of a movie, doesn’t it?
But you can rent treehouses in many different spots including here in Walt Disney World.
However, I’m sure you can find other more affordable treehouse rentals elsewhere.
Some are located in resorts with many activities to have fun with.
This can be a short romantic couples getaway too.
16. Luxury European Train Rides
See multiple European countries while traveling in style.
Well-appointed cabins, gourmet meals, and opulent lounge cars highlight this unforgettable experience.
Take in some of the most scenic views nature has to offer.
In this case, the journey is the highlight of the trip and not the final destination.
17. Candy Factory Tours
This is just a child’s dream come true, it’s an adult’s too.

Or even turn those calves and feet into putty with a pedicure.
Enjoy upscale dinners and cocktails.
Nothing but relaxation for the entire getaway.
Check out some of the best romantic spa resorts in the US.
19. Autumn Road Trip to View
Here in Florida, we don’t get the four seasons, but I remember what Fall was like while growing up in Ohio.
I try to get back up there in October whenever I can.
A long drive by itself makes this one of the most scenic travel bucket list ideas on the list.
In the northeastern states, you could choose two destinations separated by several hours to turn these couples’ travel ideas into two highlights: the drive and the final destination.

Some of nature’s most beautiful creatures are birds.
Whether witnessing a giant bald eagle rest in its nest, hummingbirds floating a short distance away or witnessing a toucan in the wild.
Birdwatching is one of those hidden gem bucket list ideas that could take you anywhere around the globe.
And it’d be just as magical no matter where you ended up.
21. Underground Caves Exploration
Drop down to a whole new world far beneath the earth’s surface.
No matter where you live you are not that far away from one of these nature’s wonders.
Or perhaps you’d like to make a list of them to visit and check off the ones that interest you the most.
Here are some of the most famous underground cave destinations for adventurous couples.
22. Epic Cocktail Bar Crawl
Before I discovered my passion for craft cocktails, I never had any interest to visit New Orleans.
Now I want to go every year.
Each cocktail bar and lounge presents its own character and some of the most world-renown drinks came from one of their menus.
Take a guided tour of some of the most famous cities around the world known for their cocktail bars.
If you visit New Orleans I highly recommend taking a cocktail crafting class so you can learn to make several of their classic drinks known around the world.
23. Foodie Tour
And after your down with the cocktail crawl participate in a guided foodie tour to learn the history of a local city’s cuisine and famous dining establishments.

Here’s a list of some behind-the-scenes tours of famous US landmarks.
24. Holiday Decoration Getaway
You haven’t quite experienced the holidays until seeing the giant Christmas tree in the Rockefeller Center in NYC.
In addition to NYC, there are dozens of small towns across the US and world that would leave you breathless from the decorations and charm.
Who says the holidays have to always be about gift-giving.
Give each other the gift of travel for the next holiday season.
Plan in advance because many others have the same idea. Prices for lodging skyrocket this time of year.
And the closer you get the less availability you’ll find.
Disney World for the Holidays
Worth noting is that our Disney parks here in Orlando are stunning during the holiday season.
Just do NOT go after the 19th because it gets beyond packed.
As a long-time Cast Member at Disney World, I can tell you that the first two weeks of December are typically the best time the entire year to visit.
There are fewer crowds, the prices for lodging are lower, and the decorations and fireworks are the best for the entire year.
Of course, keep in mind that this is Disney World we’re talking about. It’s still busy and expensive compared to other theme parks around the world.
So, if you’ve never come to Disney World then you could check off two travel bucket list ideas on one trip.
25. Rocket Launch
If you’re not from Florida then you might find it hard to believe that you can see rocket launches from hours away from Cape Canaveral, including right from Disney property.
But nothing beats seeing a rocket launch than up close.
The ground rumbles and the fire and flames burst out of the boosters.
And there’s something surreal about seeing an object leave the planet right before your eyes.
While you’re in the neighborhood stop by the Kennedy Space Center to see some of the old rockets and learn about the history of space travel.
26. Major Sports Event
I’ve gotten lucky here and have checked off one of my top bucket list items- I went to Game 7 of the World Series in 2016 with my team playing in it.

And just as you guessed you most likely will get free samples, provided you are of proper legal age of the local area’s government.

All I hear from the people who have visited them is how awestruck they feel once they pass through the doors at their amazing architecture.

This is the best way to eat authentic local cuisine.
Typically, the class prepares one appetizer, one entree, and one dessert.
In the last New Orleans cooking class, we also received local Abita beer. Yum!
